Welcome to Lincoln Elementary

Lincoln Elementary School is a PreK-3rd Grade building. We have 3 sections of all grade levels Kindergarten through 3rd Grade. To be in PreK the student must be 5 years of age prior to September 15 of the enrollment year (same as school age criteria).

Students at Lincoln will have the opportunity to have 60 minutes of music and physical education instruction each week, as well as 45 minutes of art instruction. All students are scheduled for library checkout, as well as instructional time with our teacher librarian, Deb Moyer, each week.

We have a student assistance team (SAT) coordinator, Mr. Snyder, who is in the building each morning to meet with students individually and guide our SAT meetings. We also have a guidance counselor, Mrs. Epperly, who is at Lincoln Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons. She does classroom guidance, as well as meeting with individuals and small groups for social skill building and support.

We offer Reading Plus (Title I Reading) to students who, by assessment, show that they need additional support in the area of literacy. This is done mostly as a pull-out program. We have two teachers working with these students, Mrs. Korver and Mrs. Anschutz. Mrs. Korver is in the building all day, while Mrs. Anschutz works part of the morning at Madison Elementary before coming to Lincoln. They work with students on skills ranging from letters and sounds to reading comprehension and all skills in between.

We also have a highly qualified special education teacher, Mrs. Veenstra, who works with students who have been entitled for special education services and have Individualized Education Programs. Students' goals are met both in the regular classroom, as well as in a resource room setting.

The students' day has recess breaks throughout the day to give students a chance to get some fresh air (as long as the "feels like" temperature is not below zero. Students are welcome to arrive at 8:00 AM for supervised outside time prior to the first bell ringing at 8:23 AM. Each student will get a 15 minute recess both mid-morning and mid-afternoon, as well as a 30 minute recess following lunch. Our PreK, kindergarten and 1st grade students eat lunch from 10:55-11:35 AM. The 2nd and 3rd grade students eat their lunches from 11:35 AM-NOON.

We are proud of our school, and your child will be served well by a caring group of teachers and support staff. We encourage you to come visit your child's classroom, eat lunch with your child, etc. Just let your teacher know so that he/she can plan accordingly. We hope that you experience Lincoln School to be a welcoming place for you, your child and your extended family.

We enjoy having the opportunity to serve your child!

Lincoln Information

When students are struggling in an academic area or with their behavior, teachers may elect to submit concerns to our SAT (Student Assistance Team) process. The following are facts related to the SAT process:

What is the Student Assistance Team?
The Student Assistance Team is a group of teachers, parents, and other support people who meet together to discuss a student's progress and any concerns there may be.

Who requests these meetings?
Teachers, parents or other concerned support persons can request a meeting. In most cases, the student's classroom teacher will make the request.

When are meetings held?
Meetings are generally scheduled before school, over the noon hour or after school. Meetings can also be scheduled at other times to accommodate schedules.

Who attends these meetings?
The team generally includes the classroom teacher, the principal and the SAT chairperson. The parents are encouraged to be a part of this process. Other support people may also be invited (e.g. representative of the AEA (Area Education Agency), Reading Plus teacher, nurse, counselor, etc.).

What happens at these meetings?
Generally, the classroom teacher will review the current progress of the student. Test scores and other assessments may be shared. All pertinent information will be discussed and the "team" will try to address the concerns and develop a plan of action. Usually, a follow-up meeting is scheduled to evaluate this plan and determine what additional steps need to be taken.

How long do these meetings last?
Most meetings are completed in thirty to forty-five minutes.

Who do I contact if I have questions?
Contact Jim Snyder, SAT chairman or Rich Schulte, Principal
